A roof deck in an urban setting
The price of living in one of the world's most beautiful cities can be a dearth of outside space. The owner, an avid gardner, fell in love with this hilltop house overlooking San Francisco. The house occupied the entire lot, precluding a garden at ground level. The solution was to convert the entire roof to an outdoor room for entertaining and gardening. The 450-square-foot enclosed area was fitted out with a full kitchen and infrared heaters for comfort on San Francisco's inevitable foggy nights. Accessed by an exterior spiral stair, the rooftop became a four-season retreat. The contractor was Moroso Construction, San Francisco CA.
